Teaching & Learning - Speech & Language

The role of the Speech Pathologist is to assess the speech and language skills of all new students and to prioritise their needs for therapy. Speech therapy is provided through individual sessions and group programmes. All first year Foundation students receive individual Speech Therapy sessions by one of our Speech Therapists, Eliza Zawsilak-Ciz or Wendy Hutchinson.

Speech Pathologists liaise with classroom teachers, the Specialist Language teacher, parents and other professionals regarding student needs and programs. This provides an integrated approach to supporting students.

Our Specialist Language teacher, Kay Jones, provides weekly classroom Language lessons in the Foundation and Junior grades and, on the recommendation of the Speech Pathologists, withdraws small groups of students for language expansion sessions.
